CareWorks, a South African firm, provided HIV-related services to companies, medical insurers, and other organizations.
Leveraging data to grow an HIV management business. In 2008, CareWorks sought new ideas to support its growth, effectiveness, and financial sustainability. A student team examined how the firm could leverage its substantial capacities in collecting, exploring, and analyzing unique HIV-linked data relationships. Combining an analysis of existing data usage with a detailed study of clients’, donors’, and researchers’ interests and needs, the team developed an assessment of potential partners and products to guide CareWorks’ strategy. The firm’s leaders reported that the project had helped make their partnerships increasingly service-oriented, which benefited CareWorks, their partners, and the people they served by increasing efficiency and supporting more strategic thinking about the value of data.
