Expansion Options and Strategy for an HIV Program

Support for International Change (SIC) aimed to limit the impact of HIV/AIDS in underserved communities and to train future leaders in global health and development.

The next year, SIC returned to GlobalHealth Lab for input on a strategic plan that would build on the initial team’s national expansion plan. A second team of MIT students studied the successful expansions of similar organizations, interviewed SIC staff and stakeholders, and proposed and tested selection criteria for new potential sites. They then worked with staff to build a tentative starter kit for new sights and to refine a five-year strategic plan with an emphasis on scalability of support functions such as human resources and financial planning. SIC went on to use the strategic plan to apply for grants and the selection criteria to choose wards for expansion, offer evaluations to its implementing partners, and discuss new opportunities with the government.
