Optimizing Clinical Nurse Managers’ Role for Healthy Births

LifeSpring Hospitals is a chain of maternity facilities providing high-quality affordable health care to low-income women in India.

In 2013, a third MIT student team was asked to optimize the role of the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM), who leads many aspects of patient care at each hospital. The team conducted a detailed time and motion study and made recommendations to clearly define the critically important role and ensure the CNM’s time would be utilized most efficiently and effectively.
