Mapping the Market for Maternal Health Diagnostics in Botswana

In 2012, Daktari requested a second team of students to research potential opportunities in maternal health diagnostics in Botswana. After researching point-of-care diagnostics for conditions affecting birth outcomes in the country, identifying key decision makers an major international programs, learning about pricing strategy in the diagnostics market, and delving into national purchasing processes, the team concluded that improved point-of-care diagnostics that could collect blood samples using a lancet and yield results for complete blood count, blood glucose levels, and STDs would have the greatest potential for impact. The students produced a report detailing the governmental and external support that would be necessary to successfully launch a successful product in this field.
